Data & Information

Data -

Facts and figures about any event or entity which are relevant and expressed by a suitable means.
Though being facts, data are not organised and structured. They may lack proper presentation.
This all lower down the utilisation of data for decision making and meanigfullness to the user.
e.g. -
Presenting all the physical and funcational features of any product say Computer Monitor in a document without
any categorisation/ heading, in random way.

Height=15''
Colour=Black
Screen=Flat
Stand Support is available
Extra pair of connectors
USB port is available for user.
Weight is 2.5 kg
Width = 2''
High Resolution for images. Multi mode switching capability.
....

Though the facts are made available, lack of formation, data categorisation and organisation make difficult to
utilise the details. Hence, these all are data about the monitor.

Information -

It can be described as the data, processed as per the need and presented in an organised manner so that it can
be used by the user for making judgments. The details should be relevant and should be meanigful for the user.
Thus, overcoming all the shortcomings of data by processing it generates Information.
e.g. - For the above data , we can have below Infoamtion set as a formatted report

Monitor feature manual
